Helping Home Health Care Agencies meet Seniors Wishes

Over 90% of seniors prefer to remain in their homes rather than moving into assisted living facilities, a new survey from American Advisors Group (AAG) found.

More than half of seniors have “emotional attachments” to their homes because their homes hold memories of family and life accomplishments. While aging in place has always been popular among seniors, COVID has reinforced this sentiment due to fear of becoming ill.

This raises challenges with the networks that support seniors, including for home health care agencies. The biggest challenge is shortage of staff, which has caused families to fill in. This causes a ripple effect because many families are already grasping for extra time between work, school, kids after school activities, as well as running a house. Adding an aging loved one to their schedules opens the door for an unsafe environment.

There is a solution. Seniors Home Services offers home health care networks a program that enhances the services they already provide, by using an artificial intelligence system that learns the behaviors of seniors. When there is unusual activity, or lack of activity, an alert is sent to a remote care team that follows through by contacting a pre-determined call-tree. The remote care team is more than just an alert responder. They call the senior daily to take vitals, and to chat. When vitals are out of range, the home health care agency can be notified, as well as family members.

Wearing the included around-the-neck alert system often helps, but most seniors fail to wear them or take them off and forget to put them back on, especially at night when using the bathroom. Then there is isolation. Seniors are less lonely to be lonely when using Seniors Homes Services sensor system because the Remote Care Coordinators who many the system 24/7, also reach out to the seniors daily to check on their well-being, and also just to “chat”, providing companionship. This service helps families have the peace of mind knowing that their loved one is safe, while helping home health care agencies keep their clients safe at home, without adding additional staffing.
